Accidents

On the morning of June 28th, a tragic collision between a pickup truck and a semi tractor-trailer on I-70 Westbound in Putnam County, Indiana, resulted in one fatality and two injuries. The Indiana State Police (ISP) reported that the incident occurred around 10:30 a.m., following a previous accident on I-70 that had caused traffic to slow down or stop at the 30-mile marker westbound.

According to ISP’s preliminary investigation, a 2023 Freightliner semi tractor-trailer driven by a 49-year-old Indianapolis resident was traveling in the passing lane with hazard lights on due to the congestion. The semi driver had come to a stop when the back of the truck was struck. Subsequently, a 2016 Nissan pickup truck, driven by Norma Rivera, 54, of New Castle, Delaware, collided with the rear of the semi-tractor trailer as it failed to notice the slowed or stopped traffic.

Tragically, Norma Rivera was pronounced dead at the scene, while two passengers in the pickup truck, a man and a child, were airlifted to local hospitals in Indianapolis for treatment. Thankfully, authorities anticipate their recovery. Notably, drugs and alcohol are not suspected to have played a role in the accident.
