Accidents

Two truck drivers were involved in a rear-end collision on State Road 67 south of Worthington, resulting in both being transported to the hospital and extensive damage to their trucks, early Monday morning. Craig Hudson, 42, and William Nickelson, 36, residents of Jasonville, were behind the wheels of the trucks owned by Home Run Trucking Inc. and Elmer Buchta, respectively. Upon arrival at the scene, rescue personnel found both drivers outside their vehicles, but they were later taken to Greene County General Hospital for precautionary measures due to reported chest pains.

The accident, occurring around 10:30 a.m. on a straight stretch of SR 67, was attributed to one of the drivers being cited for driving at an unsafe speed, according to the Indiana State Police report. Nickelson, driving a semi-truck, was rear-ended by Hudson’s dump truck. Both drivers sustained non-incapacitating injuries, complaining of chest pain following the collision.

The incident, which caused the closure of State Road 67 for over two hours, took place near a construction zone where temporary warning signs had been placed south of the flashing light intersection of SR 67 and 57. The investigation by ISP Trooper Kent Winstead found Hudson at fault for speeding, resulting in the closure of both lanes until the vehicles were cleared off the road.

In light of the circumstances, it’s crucial to recognize the challenges faced by truck drivers who operate heavy equipment and the need for mutual respect and caution on the road. While accidents can be distressing, it is important to consider all factors at play and avoid assigning blame hastily. Let’s show appreciation for the hard work and dedication of these drivers who play a vital role in our daily lives and promote safe driving practices for everyone on the road.
