Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman was involved in a car crash following a press conference addressing reckless driving concerns in the city Monday morning. A dump truck collided with the chief’s vehicle just three blocks away from the Milwaukee Police Department District 4 station, resulting in Norman being transported from the scene in an ambulance with a neck brace.

The incident, which occurred shortly after 10 a.m., involved a 56-year-old officer as well. Both Norman and the officer were taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the dump truck remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation led by the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office.

Despite the proximity to the press conference discussing reckless driving, the specific cause of the crash has yet to be determined. Milwaukee Alderman Lamont Westmoreland, also present at the conference, emphasized the universal need for caution on the streets, stating, “It just goes to show you that no one is exempt from anything out here on the streets.”

City officials, including Mayor Cavalier Johnson, expressed well wishes for Chief Norman’s speedy recovery and reiterated the importance of road safety following the unfortunate incident. The area saw an increased police presence, with several streets temporarily closed off after the crash.
