CBS News Update: Minnesota Vikings Rookie Khyree Jackson Tragically Dies in Car Accident

MINNEAPOLIS — The football world was shaken by the devastating news that Minnesota Vikings rookie Khyree Jackson lost his life in a car accident in Maryland. The talented 24-year-old athlete, who formerly played for the University of Alabama and the University of Oregon, was drafted by the Vikings in the fourth round as the 108th overall pick this past April.

Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell expressed his profound sorrow, describing Jackson as not only a promising football player but also an individual dedicated to personal growth and impacting those around him. The tragic incident occurred in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, when a silver Infiniti collided with Jackson’s vehicle and a Chevrolet Impala on Route 4 early Saturday morning.

Jackson, along with his companions, 24-year-old Anthony Lytton and 23-year-old Isaiah Hazel, lost their lives in the crash. Authorities suspect that alcohol may have played a role in the accident. General Manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah fondly remembered Jackson as a resilient individual with ambitious goals, both on and off the field.

In response to this heartbreaking loss, the Minnesota Vikings have extended their support to Jackson’s family and are providing counseling and emotional assistance to grieving players. Aki Nace, a dedicated web producer at CBS Minnesota, has been diligently covering breaking news and crafting compelling short-form documentaries since 2019.

Our hearts go out to Khyree Jackson’s loved ones, teammates, and coaches, as well as all who have been affected by this tragedy. Rest in peace, Khyree.
