In DeLand, a tragic incident unfolded as a deadly crash occurred, temporarily closing a section of State Road 44 and leading to a subsequent hit-and-run on Friday morning. The Florida Highway Patrol reported that the collision took place at 7:15 a.m. when a dump truck, travelling eastbound, veered into the westbound lane, resulting in a head-on collision with another vehicle. The 23-year-old dump truck driver sustained minor injuries and was hospitalized, while the 35-year-old resident of DeLand driving the other vehicle tragically lost their life at the scene.

Additionally, another vehicle traveling westbound on SR-44 slowed down due to the accident, but a car following failed to stop in time, causing a rear-end collision before fleeing the scene.
