A tragic incident on the 101 Freeway in Studio City claimed the life of a heroic Los Angeles City Fire Department recruit named Jacob Fuerte. While en route to the Drill Tower Fire Academy early in the morning, Fuerte stopped to assist a crash victim and was fatally struck by a passing vehicle. The LAFD expressed deep sorrow, stating that Fuerte may have been involved in a traffic collision while trying to help those in need. Despite swift response from firefighter paramedics, Fuerte could not be saved.

The son of a dedicated veteran firefighter and paramedic, Fuerte was following in his father’s footsteps, embodying the values of service and compassion instilled by his family. Mayor Karen Bass, in her State of the City address, honored Fuerte by ordering City Hall flags to be flown at half-staff.

The heart-wrenching incident involved multiple vehicles, including a car, a Jeep Wrangler, and a truck towing portable restrooms. Witnesses reported a devastating crash scene, underscoring the dangers faced by first responders like Fuerte in the line of duty. The LAPD is investigating the incident as a possible hit-and-run.

In a solemn procession, fire department vehicles accompanied Fuerte’s body to the coroner’s office, paying tribute to his sacrifice. LAFD Chief Kristin Crowley paid tribute to Fuerte’s bravery and selflessness, highlighting the profound loss suffered by his family and the firefighting community.
