Fatal Accident Near Great Falls Claims Life of Chester Resident

A tragic incident occurred in Chouteau County on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, resulting in the loss of a Chester woman’s life. The woman succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday, January 30, following a two-vehicle crash near the community of Carter, located between Great Falls and Fort Benton at approximately 9:45 a.m.

The Montana Highway Patrol detailed that the accident involved the following vehicles and individuals:

Vehicle 1 – Oldsmobile:
Vehicle 2 – Peterbilt semi-truck with trailer: A 62-year-old man from Brady, who was safely belted and emerged uninjured.

According to the MHP crash report, both the Oldsmobile and the semi-truck were southbound on US Highway 87 when the semi-truck was navigating a right turn onto Buck Bridge Road. A stationary vehicle at the stop sign on Buck Bridge Road was preparing to turn onto US 87. In an effort to avoid a collision with the stationary vehicle, the semi-truck maneuvered into the left-turn lane for a wide right turn. Regrettably, the driver of the Oldsmobile failed to observe the semi-truck’s turning intentions promptly, resulting in a collision with the trailer when attempting evasive action.

The MHP investigation confirmed that speed, alcohol, and drugs were not contributing factors to the crash, and the road conditions were dry at the time of the incident.
